The Ashdown Forest is on our doorstep, offering stunning surroundings for our new Eco Centre. Offering great food & a range of goods that are sourced on or around the Forest – we want to become a new destination for all visitors to the Forest, showcasing the very best of this beautiful area.
We understand that this will be a journey that will take years, but given that this site has been part of the Ashdown Forest community since 1966 we think that we have a great position to build on.
With the upcoming centenary celebration of Winnie the Pooh, the three owners flanked by a wonderful team, are working tirelessly to upgrade & modernise the site over the coming years.
THE KITCHEN GARDEN
We are planning to launch a kitchen garden in 2024 to grow the majority of the vegetables, herbs & root vegetables that we will serve in The Kitchen – our onsite restaurant.
THE FOREST GARDEN
Our head of horticulture has been planning a Forest garden for years but never had the location. Forest gardening is a low-maintenance, sustainable, plant-based food production and agroforestry system based on woodland ecosystems, incorporating fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines and perennial vegetables which have yields directly useful to humans
HYDROPONICS & AQUAPONICS
Our greenhouse gives us a wonderful location to build a large hydroponics system that will support us & the local community with salads, herbs & micro herbs. We launched a small hydroponics system in July 2023 to show our customers our intentions & to supply The Kitchen.
ASHDOWN FOREST INFORMATION CENTRE
With our deep links into the Forest community, we think we are in a great place to provide information on many aspects of the Forest. Information on great walks, must see locations & other destinations to visit while in the area. We also have a strong interest in growing plants & flora that are native to the area as these are great plants for gardens in the area – perfectly suited to the soil & terroir.
