A bumper crop of honey!

The frames containing the honey here at Babylon

This year has been brilliant so far and we’ve already extracted two batches of honey from our hives.

Lovely weather in spring and a warm summer means our bee hives have produced an fabulous amount of raw Sussex honey.

We’ve had lots of interesting events this season including a few swarms and the drama of one of our Queen bees getting stuck in the excluder – sadly she didn’t survive the experience.

What’s an excluder? It’s a wooden frame inside the beehive that allows the worker bees to get out of the hive and collect nectar, but the Queen can’t get out. Plus, we also discovered we had TWO Queens in a hive which is very unusual.

Here are a few photos from our May 2025 extraction, plus a short video showing the process of extracting the honey which is now on sale now in our Kitchen Shop
