Mary Harris is the second of our current Artists in residence here at Babylon. Mary is an artist and printmaker based in Crowborough, East Sussex and we have her wood block prints for sale in The Shop.

Our favourite print can be found in The Kitchen at Babylon, which was based around the 450 year old Sweet Chestnut tree which grows alongside our outside terrace area. Mary created this print because she loves trees, just as much as we do.

We are thrilled to announce that this month, one of Mary’s wood block prints of the coast at Pett Level, has been accepted for an exhibition at the Mall galleries in London as part of the The Royal Society of Marine Artists.
A favourite place for Mary to visit with its large skies, she explains how the print was created:
“It is made by printing each layer, starting from the lightest colour, then removing more wood and reprinting, until the top layer is dark brown the colour of the breakwaters at Pett Level.”
You can view the exhibition at The Mall galleries from 21st to 30th September. More information can be found on their website.
Mary is a member of our local community and has been a great friend of our unique location for many years and we look forward to seeing what artwork she produces next. Follow Mary on instagram to view more of her unique work.
