Our Hydroponics system at Babylon

Detail of the hydroponics system with salads growing.

Here at Babylon we are always looking for ways to innovate. One of our owners has a special interest in growing plants hydroponically and our huge greenhouse gives us the perfect location to do this. We’ve built a small hydroponics system that will grow salads and micro herbs for use in the wonderful food that we serve at our restaurant – The Kitchen.

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without using soil. Instead they are fed on mineral nutrient salts dissolved in water. The advantages of hydroponics are that we can grow our salads and micro herbs in a smaller area and also have year round production. We also use less water compared to traditional soil based methods of growing and we have no weeds!

The table seating within the greenhouse is situated alongside the hydroponics system so this means that you also have the soothing sound of the running water whilst you enjoy the food and drink from The Kitchen.

We would love you to come and see it for yourselves and we’ll be glad to show you around and explain in more detail how the system works.
