Cooking with students

Come and join us for an introduction to cooking, an engaging and fun course suitable for anyone over the age of 18. It’s an ideal way to learn these important life skills, perfect if you are at university or planning on moving out of the family home.

Our small group course will be taught here at Babylon, and show you the skills to make cracking meals to impress!

Get taught basic nutrition and cooking skills in a nurturing and fun environment. The day will be focused on hands on, experiential learning with a ‘show and do’ approach which incorporates as much cooking as possible into the sessions.

Who’s this course for?

ANYONE OVER THE AGE OF 18
This course is perfect if you’ve finished full time education and are currently at university, if you’re moving away from the family home or if you want to improve your culinary skills.

Aims of the course

KNIFE SKILLS
How to use a knife safely and efficiently. Different techniques, sharpening and the right knife for the right job. 

CONFIDENCE
Gain confidence in the kitchen, to enable you to get creative and cook a few basic but tasty meals.

NUTRITIONAL KNOWLEDGE
The basic ability of how to build nutritionally balanced meals.

WORK COLLABORATIVELY
As well as being able to work independently, there will be an emphasis on the positive benefits of working alongside others.


Dates and details

DATE & TIME
Saturday 4th and 5th January 2025. Beginning at 10.00am and finishing at 2.00pm. Lunch will be provided and you’ll be able to take home the delicious food you’ve made.

DURATION
Either choose to do one day or both days.

CLASS SIZE
With a maximum of six participants that classes are small enough to ensure that you benefit from Alex’s expertise.

Alex is one of the chefs here at Babylon. He was the Chef proprietor of The Limetree Kitchen (the top rated restaurant in Lewes) and has a passion for creating delicious food with a fantastic attention to detail.

DAY TWO

Welcome to day two!

  • Blueberry pancakes
  • Banana, honey and oat smoothie
  • Beef ragu
  • Prawn and vegetable stir fry
  • Bechamel sauce
  • Lasagne

We will be preparing and cooking meat.

Location
Cooking with students will be held at Babylon Eco Centre, a welcoming destination for food and horticulture located on the edge of the Ashdown Forest.
